Mandi has been part of the administration team since mid 2008. Before joining HB Lanarc she received her diplomas as a Legal Assistant and Administrative Assistant as well as her book keeping. During a typical day, Mandi can be found processing monthly reports, completing staff expenses, assisting with travel arrangements, and reconciling company credit cards. Recently she has also started assisting with proposals and estimates. Outside of the office, Mandi enjoys gardening, video games, and taking her two Chihuahuas for walks.

Joanna has been working with communities and local governments to design and implement urban agriculture and urban greening projects for over a decade. She has also been involved in the implementation of food gardens and community gardens on school grounds, in public space and institutional spaces. She has also played a key role in facilitating community involvement in the urban agricultural process. More recently she has been working with urban farmers and local governments to identify opportunities to support and enhance urban farming as a business model. Joanna also specializes in ecosystem planning, exploring how local governments can enhance their ecosystem services in how the plan and design their cities. Joanna also has extensive urban design and community engagement experience.

Keltie Craig

Keltie is a planner with a special interest in healthy communities (including active transportation) and innovative engagement. Since joining HB Lanarc, Keltie has contributed to various municipal and regional plans including a comprehensive sustainability plan for Canada’s Capital Region; Port Coquitlam’s Environmental Strategic Plan; and a Cycling Plan for the Town of Ladysmith. She is currently leading the development of a Healthy Communities Practice Guide for the Canadian Institute of Planners. Her engagement work includes a city-wide strategic visioning project for the Vancouver Public Library, and conducting consultation for the regional transportation agency, TransLink, for a rapid transit study in Surrey, BC. Keltie has led a community visioning workshop for a hospice in Nelson, BC, and various youth engagement processes throughout BC in Comox Valley, Victoria and Parksville.

In addition to her work with HB Lanarc-Golder, Keltie was a member of the City of Vancouver’s Bicycle Advisory Committee from 2008 - 2011; and performed for four years with the B:C:Clettes - a bicycle-inspired performance collective. She is a founding member of the Healing Cities Institute, an HB Lanarc-led initiative to connect health, planning and design and is also a member of the Canadian Community of Practice in Ecosystem Approaches to Health.

Emory’s work explores the intersection of affordable housing policy and urban design, engagement, and ensuring equity in the planning process. She holds an Honors degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Ryerson University - with an emphasis on affordable housing policy and community engagement. Emory is currently managing a year-long strategic planning and engagement program for the Vancouver Public Library, as well as the Official Community Plan Engagement Strategy for the City of North Vancouver. She has designed and facilitated workshops and design charrettes for various municipalities and non-profit groups in BC including the successful Westbank Centre community design charrette in West Kelowna, and the Choose Your Own Adventure themed public events and community conversation kits created for the Vancouver Public Library.

Janine has a unique blend of experience in the areas of community planning, food/agriculture systems, and is a long standing member of the Vancouver Food Policy Council. In her role as Food and Agriculture Systems Specialist at HB Lanarc-Golder, Janine works with municipalities, developers, and communities to create agriculture plans, sustainable food system strategies, policies, and planning and design opportunities. Janine brings food and agriculture into focus for decision-makers by working with communities, non-profit organizations, local governments, and developers in a wide-range of projects including food policy, agriculture strategies, site design, and food system strategies. Janine is frequently invited to teach and speak about sustainable food and agriculture systems, and is a co-editor and contributor to a newly published book: Agricultural Urbanism, Handbook for Building Sustainable Food and Agriculture Systems in 21st Century Cities. Janine has recently been awarded the CIP President’s award for Young Planner (2010).

Kate Evans

Kate is motivated by solutions that combine design, ecology, social context and effective communication. Kate holds a degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Guelph and has experience with non-profit conservation work in Saskatchewan as well as private sector consulting in Ontario. Internationally, she has lived and studied in Sweden & Chile which have enriched her design perspective and processes.

Kate has contributed to projects at a range of design and planning scales for both public and private sector clients. As a component of these varying projects, Kate plays a supportive role in developing graphic and visual communication materials.

Daniella Fergusson

For more than a decade, Daniella has been working in web development and “digital engagement” – utilizing the social web and mobile media for planning and engagement processes. Recently, Daniella completed a Public Input Toolkit for Alberta Municipal Affairs, which contains statistics, tips, and case studies that explain why, when, and how to use digital engagement tools. She is currently working on a similar, yet sustainability-focused, project for the cities of Albany and Richmond in the US. Daniella has also worked with the District of North Vancouver, the City of Surrey, Campbell River, the BC Climate Action Secretariat, and Simon Fraser University on web-related work.

Complementing her online experience, Daniella worked on long-range planning and related engagement for Campbell River and rural areas of the Okanagan. She is a skilled graphic designer, and has created presentation boards, surveys, charrette materials, and other elements of our firm’s proven engagement techniques. Daniella is certified by the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2).

Daniella’s multidisciplinary experience in the private, government, and non-profit sectors bridges work with aboriginal groups, energy companies, urban planning, and urban design. Her planning education focused on social media and sustainability, specifically municipal responses to the Green Communities Act in BC. Daniella has a passion for ecologically sustainable communities, high quality urban design, and using social media to help government be more participatory, transparent, and accountable.

Amy’s diverse background provides her with a unique set of technical, problem solving, graphic and design skills which she uses to find effective solutions to a wide range of problems.

Her interests involve finding innovative ways to integrate sustainability strategies into the design of urban environments such that they contribute to efficiency while maintaining or enhancing the quality of life of the residents

Daryl’s educational background includes a Geography degree with a focus on environmental management from UBC as well as an Advanced Diploma in Geographic Information System from BCIT. His role at HB Lanarc-Golder Associates includes digital mapping, spatial analysis and data management, and 3D modeling. Daryl has used his GIS skills for a variety of applications including regional planning, resource policy and scenic values management, public engagement and community mapping, agricultural and environmental inventory, and application design and development. Daryl’s interests involve the use of GIS and visualization technologies to effectively communicate spatial information.

As a part of the climate and energy team at HB Lanarc-Golder, Micah plays a leadership role in developing community-wide and organizational management plans and inventories of energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. Micah brings an interdisciplinary background and diverse experiences in energy and environmental analysis to the projects that he works on, helping integrate technical approaches and policy design. Prior to joining HB Lanarc-Golder, Micah was a Senior Program Officer for ICLEI-U.S.A., where he advised local governments across the United States on energy and emission management. Micah initiated regional climate action collaboration and led the development of the Climate and Air Pollution Planning Assistant (CAPPA), a decision support tool for developing local climate action plans. Micah is a subject matter expert in greenhouse gas inventory methods and protocols and has also worked as a policy analyst, consultant, and researcher on a broad array of sustainability issues.

Megan’s educational background includes an Advanced Diploma in Geographic Information Systems from BCIT, as well as a Political Science degree with a focus on international sustainability issues from UBC.  Her role at HB Lanarc–Golder includes digital mapping, spatial data management and analysis, greenhouse gas emissions modeling, and wildlife habitat mapping and assessments. Megan has developed and applied her GIS skills in a variety of different sectors, including work with various non-profit organizations around the world, international government agencies, and community associations. Megan’s interests include the use of GIS as a means of clearly communicating information and enhancing decision-making for community members as well as policy makers.

Aaron holds an advanced diploma in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) from BCIT. As a GIS Programmer/Analyst Aaron’s responsibilities lie mainly with spatial data modeling, custom application development and interfacing between HB Lanarc-Golder team members and spatial data. Aaron currently leads the development of the spatial modeling component of CEEMAP, a greenhouse gas emissions forecasting and modeling tool. His current specialties include: Municipal and Regional population and employment growth forecasting, transportation modeling, spatial regression analysis, wildlife habitat suitability analysis, ecosystem modeling and analysis, database application development, climate impact forecasting and analysis, 3D modeling and buildout analysis, data management, and data QA/QC. In the past Aaron has used his GIS skills in a diverse array of settings including, conservation, transportation planning and habitat modeling. Aaron’s ability to balance a detail-oriented focus with a diverse array of team members allows him to serve as an exceptional member of any project team.

Sebastian Lippa

Sebastian holds a Masters in Planning from UBC’s School of Regional and Community Planning. In 2010, Sebastian became one of the first LEED accredited professionals with a specialization in Neighbourhood Development (LEED-ND) in the world. His main areas of practice focus on long-range, strategic, policy, and green development planning. Some of his major projects include the City of Edmonton’s Capital City Downtown Plan, the City of Edmonton’s Green Building Plan, and the City of Vancouver’s LEED-ND Certification Submission.

Jason Locke is responsible for the design and delivery of First Nation and Aboriginal planning services including, land use and land management, natural resource management, climate change adaptation, community economic development, training and capacity development, and community engagement.

Jason has spent over 10 years working on Aboriginal relations and planning in the public, private and non-profit sector on a diversity of issues including land claims, community planning, land use, natural resource management, climate change, and community economic development. A key part of Jason’s work has been training and capacity development for Aboriginal communities. Key examples of this work include the Aboriginal Land Use Planning Curriculum, designed for First Nations, Inuit and Métis; and Climate Change Planning Tools for First Nations – a set of guidebooks that help First Nations adapt to climate change.

In addition, Jason has experience working with municipal governments ranging from sustainability strategies which include indicators, targets and policies to improve overall sustainable performance, to the development of Official Community Plans with extensive public and stakeholder consultation.

Jason is a provisional member of the Canadian Institute of Planners and holds a B.A. in Pacific Northwest native history and a Master’s degree in City Planning.

Odete has 14 years experience in community planning and managing development applications for municipalities, regional districts, agencies and private sector clients. Odete has worked as a municipal planner and subdivision technician and is well versed in local government reviews, regulatory requirements and community consultations. She is experienced managing comprehensive development applications, both as the receiving municipal planner and as the lead applicant for clients. Her experience between public and private sector, as well as her background in process facilitation, consultation, subdivision planning and municipal finance is a valuable asset for managing development processes efficiently and in a manner that delivers win-win results for clients.

Kate graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Masters in Landscape Architecture and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts Honours - Visual Arts Degree from the University of Victoria. Since joining the firm in March 2008, she has been involved in the design and development of graphic communication materials for public engagement and facilitation projects.

Kate offers experience in the design, planning and research of child centred outdoor play environments. Her research working at the University of British Columbia focused on the design of outdoor playspaces at childcare centres in Vancouver, and aimed to understand the physical and environmental factors that support the positive development of children.

Trained using real life case study analysis at the Richard Ivey School of Business, Maxwell has developed to appreciate the complexity of life in organizations. He is taking on the role of Business Manager to develop and manage the firm's organizational systems and strategy.

Brought on to the HB Lanarc team by Mark Holland first in 2007 to research how organizations around the world are addressing environmental and social sustainability, Maxwell has been involved in projects aimed at climate protection at the municipal and provincial levels, local food security and education, and community and organizational sustainability. He takes the position that the worldwide climate, economic, and energy changes we are experiencing are permanent and require new long-term perspectives, investment focus, and accountability first and foremost at the local and regional levels, but that the role of companies cannot be overlooked.

Maxwell is an Advanced Open Water Diver and uses traveling, films and the outdoors to provide the work-life balance he strives to build into the organizations he works with. Maxwell has returned to HB Lanarc after a year traveling China, volunteering in a monastery in Nepal, scuba diving throughout SE Asia, and living in a van in Australia in 2009/10.

Andrea’s work at HB Lanarc is focused on project management, innovative consultation methods, and planning large-scale workshops and public events. Andrea believes that sustainability begins with inspiration, education and collaboration, and she brings an awareness of team dynamics and effective communication to all of her projects. Since joining the firm in 2005, she has gained extensive experience in sustainable community development strategies, for both developers and municipalities.

Andrea holds a degree in Environmental Design, a program combining planning, architecture, and landscape architecture. Her exploration of sustainability began in 1996 when she began studying ecological design and natural building methods (timber, strawbale, & cob) in rural sustainable communities.

She is excited and enthusiastic to be in a position of support working in a place that promotes and supports sustainability. She enjoys the variety reception can bring, meeting new people and learning on the go. Sean’s key planning experience and research interests include green buildings, energy efficiency, District Energy, and managing “waste” as a resource. Sarah is an Environmental Planner with ten years of experience. She has worked on a variety of planning projects, including solid waste management, community engagement, and community development. Sarah has particular expertise in waste management planning and strategic planning. Her work has included facilitating the development of solid waste management plans, reviewing and evaluating emerging waste management technologies, conducting feasibility studies for composting programs and facilities, full cost accounting of waste management systems, and developing and running community engagement programs. In addition to technical abilities, Sarah is skilled in project management, facilitation, and conflict management.

Christina’s work at HB Lanarc - Golder is focused on identity development, layout design, and web design. She has experience in multi-client oriented atmospheres that have tight deadlines and budgets as well as working on her own as a freelancer. Her passion is solving design problems with smart, unique and intuitive solutions. Christina’s diverse skill set means she works on everything from communication materials and surveys for public engagement and facilitation projects to developing new identities for websites or Official Community Plan projects.

Christina holds an Arts degree with a focus on Visual Arts and Psychology. She also studied graphic design through Emily Carr and the British Columbia Institute of Technology. She finds her inspiration in living on the west coast and especially being close to the ocean.
