The Cities of Langford and Colwood on Vancouver Island reviewed and updated their Official Community Plans in response to increasing growth and development pressure, community need for well-designed town centres and parks, and to ensure consistency with the regional growth strategy. The project used urban design and public engagement strategies to bring the existing OCPs into alignment with the current regional context. Sustainability was also a major focus for the OCPs. HB Lanarc used the Sustainability Matrix and 8 Pillars of a Sustainable Community as frameworks to guide the development of policy. This project recently won an innovation award for leadership in inter-jurisdictional planning from the Union of British Columbia Municipalities.
