Snuneymuxw First Nation is located near downtown Nanaimo with additional reserve lands south of Nanaimo and land holdings within the City of Nanaimo. The community's Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP) focuses on eight strategic areas. It contains a set of policies, goals, objectives, strategies and recommended actions that address each of the eight areas. The purpose of the CCP is to give high-level direction for all secondary plans, such as a land use plan, to ensure all plans are consistent with the community's goals and objectives as set out in the CCP.

The development of the CCP grew from a series of consultative workshops and open houses with Chief and Council, staff and residents on community perspectives and values. The final outcome will be a visionary document, unique to Snuneymuxw, which focuses on sustainability, economic prosperity and improved quality of life. An Economic Development Strategy and Land Use Strategy will also be developed as part of this process.
